(Question 4 ) How did you use Media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
below is a list of technology i've used and widened my experience in while creating my final pieces.
IMOVIE
i have during this project used IMovie a lot, as this was used to create my final film trailer one which included me learning as i went how everything worked with imovie even though at first i through i would never be able to work it out , i go therein the end with the help of my media teacher and fellow media students who where quicker at learning and more skilled than i was with imovie.
when using imovie i found out there was a lot of useful tools to make my film trailer look more professional and cooler such as the different backgrounds, text types and presentations as well as the free audio that is copyright free.
as well as being able to store your film in separate folders for your different projects so that when you load up you Imovie there already there for you.
overall i found that Imovie was the most helpful in process of making my film trailer and probably wouldn't been able to do it without it.
PHOTOSHOP
during this is project i have also used photoshop a lot when creating my ancillary tasks which where my magazine cover and film poster. photoshop like Imovie i found challenging first but i got the hang of it eventually with the help from Allan and my teacher i was able to learn quickly how everything worked with photoshop.
while using photoshop i found many useful tools to aid me with editing and enhancing my photographs and layout of my poster and film magazine cover.
YOUTUBE
youtube was another useful tool when doing my research into film trailers i helped me a lot when looking for infuence or inspiration. as well as providing me with useful audio and green screen effects that are copyright free. such as the bullet animation that i have used in my film trailer intro along with the audio i used they where both copyright free sounds and green screen effects.
Google Chrome
google chrome helped me with most of my research alongside youtube , if i needed help with any conventions or looking for research into film poster of magazine covers google was my best source of information and media infuence research. i found it very handy if i need to do some inspiration hunting for my final pieces.
DSLR CAMERAS
When taking photographs for my final ancillary tasks i used DSLR Cameras a lot when taking photographs i would think about how i would want the image to look and take a couple of different angles and shots probably a lot more than i needed but it gave me a variety of images to choose from instead of just one or two .
as you can see below are some of the photo i took and almost all of them i didn't need.
VIDEO CAMERA
i used a video camera quite a lot when making my film trailer and just the same as with taking photos more is better than not enough so i made sure when filming i recorded a lot more footage that i would ever need so that i had a variety of shot angles and scenes that probably only under half would have been used and put into that final piece.
below are some of the videos that i took and most of them where not put into the final piece well at least not the whole clips.
- I Movie
- Photoshop
- Youtube
- Google Chrome
- DSLR Cameras
- HD Video Recording Cameras

( Question 3 ) What have you learned from your audience feedback?
while doing my work i realised just how important audience feedback is whether it be from my teachers or classmates, this is because i need to know how to attract my audience to my media product successfully.
we regularly have show and tell meetings within out media class to discuss the different way that we liked/disliked parts from each others work and offered ways in which we could alter or change them to make them more fitting for the target audience.
some feedback i received from Allan and harry:
after showing Allan this mock up of my film poster during one of our meetings he said that the text ''looked too comical''
( which i agreed) and this is how i made the decision to change it to a more serious look which made my piece more horror thriller rather that horror-com, harry also said this when i asked him he said he felt it looked too 'out of place' for the type of film trailer that i produced, and it wouldn't link together as well as a more mature look for the film poster.
heres the first poster i shown them:
and after there feedback i took note of what they said and edited my film poster for my second draft, and now this is what it looks like , which actually made it to be part of my final piece.
after showing Allan and Harry my first draft film trailer which is below, they gave me some most needed feedback on it which i have stated below the video.
after i shown them this first final draft they made a comment on the intro being ''a bit slow'' and ''amateur'', which i agreed , which then influenced me to change this and showing them the new one i had created a couple of days later they offered me more feedback below this video beneath.
after showing them this new trailer they both liked the new one i have made and said the it looked more like something from an 'official trailer"
i shown them my first draft for my film magazine cover which is below, and after looking at it they both said that they loved the image i used and that i look ''scary'' and ''psycho'' which is what i intended when i took the picture of my subject Jess. however they said the the posters background look a bit "blank" and "too plain" and they said that maybe some blood or something could emphasise that fact that she is ''crazy"
after taking not of there feedback i looked at what i could do to change this part of my my film magazine cover and decided i liked the idea that Allan and Harry had suggested which was to add a blood background to my cover to add that more "crazy" look which then i did and the day after doing so i shown them the changes i had made to it and gathered there opinions which are below the image beneath.
after showing them my re-drafted magazine cover they said that it looked a lot more "deranged'' and ''perfectly fits'' with the film trailer and poster that id already created. which i was very happy with this feedback.

( Question 2 ) HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TEXTS?
Saturday, 9 April 2016
( Question 1 ) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real products?
i have picked to do a horror/thriller film trailer , film poster and film magazine cover. while making them i have challenged and developed real media products. i have looked a variety of film trailer , magazine cover and film posters that all are of the horror/ thriller genre and these have greatly influenced my work. for example below are some of examples and how i challenged them or conveyed them into my final pieces:
for my film trailer :
i have used the below examples as influence for my work
i have used the following film trailers as my influence:
The Curse of Downers Grove: https://youtu.be/MypaSK7VNdQ
amityville - The awakening : https://youtu.be/pCN3Ouo-Hys
i have used particular scenes for each of these which i found would fit my film trailer. as you can see from the screen snaps below, i have conveyed these scenes in my own style in which i have also challaged them aswell in others to make m film different in comparison.
as you can see i have challenged the convention by using it in a different way and angle, my version is to look scary and intimidating the star model i have used is to show her being scared and intimidated.
for my magazine cover:
i have used the below examples as influence for my work
i had trouble with finding a horror film poster so i go ones that where sort of what i was looking for and i challenged the conventions of these by using a plainer background and simple version of the layout these ones in my opinion are took happy and bright to convey a serial killing teenager as my film does. as you can see my poster has a more psychotic look which fits with my horror / thriller genre. my used of the similar layout show how i convey the existing empire magazines layout.

for my film poster i conveyed the themes of up close creepy images as i have seen while researching that seems to be a common thing for horror posters to do as it adds that chill down your spine while looking at it making it more temping to buy or watch in my opinion as a horror movie lover.
this is my film poster:
as you can see i have conveyed a lot of the aspects of the housebound poster below into my film poster from the fade to the placement of my image however i have challenged this star model by using a different text arrangement as you can see I've used something more like the 'single white women' poster layout with the footer text .

film poster (process)
this is the original image that i have decided to use for my final film poster as i have decided this one looks more suitable for my poster as looking at star models during my research shows that often focus on specific thing in a close up so i have decided that this image would be a perfect fit for conveying the aspects of a horror movie poster.
next i was choosing a text and placement for it . i have made the decision that the middle text is too cartoon and makes it look comical whereas the right and left text looks serious and creepy so that is the text i have decided on for my poster.
NEXT i though about what would be on a movie poster and looked at some examples which are below :
so i've decided that am going to use these below to put on my film trailer to make it look more like my chosen star models:
this is what my footer of my film poster looks like now :

magzine cover (process)
firstly i added my title for the magazine which is Empire, i have looked into the conventions my star model covers from previous Empire magazine cover and noticed that they focus on an important character, or actor in the film thats advertised on the cover for example for james bones Skyfall it has a photograph of Daniel Craig as he plays james bond as is the main the character.
after added the title i added my main characters image which is jess from my film trailer, her character is a teenager with mental disorder this can be seen by the way she is posed with her hands clawing at her face and hands covered in blood, i picked this pose to express her personality as character.
i have increased the brightness and contrast and added a sub heading to my image, the reason for doing this is that it adds a more intense and dramatic feel the cover and makes her look for deranged.
i have now added a blood spatter background as it backs up the image complementing the horror feel to it, this not only makes the image look creeper it sits well with the text on top of it. i have also added my films title to the image.
and finally i rearraged the heading the sub headings as the star model i picked used this layout as you can see, aswell as adding blood spatter behind the film title to make it more psycho and intense.
THIS IS MY FINAL FRONT COVER FOR MY MAGAZINE:
